My Dissertation - Second Week of Study |
Dates: 9.2.2007 to 15.2.2007
The first thing I did this week was ‘re-focus’. By refocusing I mean look at what I have done and what I should be doing to ensure that I am on track and do not get distracted and go off at a tangent.
It would be quite easy to go off at a tangent, there is so much to do and every time you start one task it seems to generate another two tasks.
I have decided that every Friday I will take stock of what I am doing and ensure that I am on track, organised and focused.
I finished off the cause\effect diagrams and was going to a second iteration of them. They were really quite disorganised when I had a look at them, just a jumble of ideas. I then decided that a more appropriate methodology would be mind maps. These allow you to link ideas in an organised manner, to group different ideas and concepts. The generation of the mind maps was also used as a means of reorganising all the ideas in the cause\effect diagrams into something that is more aligned with the objectives of the dissertation.
I have also been going through set book 2; set book 2 is the Study Guide. I have been picking out what I call ‘key phrases’ and copying them into a single, smaller document. The phrases are a bit disorganised when looking at them but if you have read the Study Guide they are understandable, you need to know the context from which they came. They serve as a set of reminders of the key points to the dissertation. Rather than read the whole study guide I can just glance through the ‘key phrases’.
